We are learning about increasing acts of violence and robberies targeting Asian Americans both here in the Bay Area and across the country. On January 28, Vicha Ratanapakdee, an 84-year-old grandfather who was enjoying his daily morning walk was brutally and fatally knocked to the ground in San Francisco. The suspect pleaded not guilty despite being caught on camera.
The same day my mother was robbed, Noel Quintana was on his way to work on the subway in New York City. He was slashed across the face with a box cutter because he asked someone to stop kicking his backpack. Police are still searching for the attacker.
